Happy Little Tree

Simple design.

As I get older, I LOVE Christmas decor that can be easily stored without taking up too much room! Simplified may be the right word for this new Design of the Month. Another thing I love is something upcycled that uses memorabilia or imagery that has personal meaning. These upcycled glass ornament box elements take me back to when life was much more simple and Christmas morning was pure magic.

The December Design of the Month, like all of our creations, has so many possibilities for multiple finished canvases. And, of course, I couldn’t stop making them! I am excited to teach this design locally this season and to share it with our amazing online community!

Have you ever added your own one of a kind art to your Christmas decor?

Our Happy Little Tree is on a background of other happy little trees, added with some true Bob Ross style techniques that are simple and fun to do over and over at any age! Adding some metallic silver and pearl paint touches gives that special sparkle I remember from Christmas cards past. A little shine is optional, but highly recommended! The best part is how each one turns out differently and there is no such thing as a bad Christmas tree! Keep in mind the upcycled box tree will be the star of the show, so any happy little accidents that you don’t love can be covered up!

You don’t have to be Bob Ross to create style that is timeless and fun!

There was no way I could resist cutting out a few deer from the Holiday Minis Bundle templates to try on this sparkling wonderland! They look right at home don’t they? You can find this timeless digital design kit that includes loads of tools for your holiday creating here.

Our Oh Deer templates are another great option!

Trying different templates on our new background is not the only option for variation in our designs. Trying different backgrounds on with new templates is just as much fun! This copper patina background also creates a fun contrast to the rustic and old box parts with their clean modern design.

Creating a patina finish is a lot like marbling.

Speaking of templates, I was dying to upcycle these box parts and share them with Design of the Month Club Maker Members! These are available for a limited time. Become a Maker Member to get your reusable templates. They are available for a limited time and can be used in so many ways for years to come! Wide trees, skinny trees, tall and short trees! Some we left simple and streamlined, others we added all the frills! What are some of your favorite ways to decorate your tree? There is no trim like holiday trim!

We hope you will try the Design of the Month Club this holiday season. Be sure and post your finished creations in our creative communities on Facebook and Youtube!

Happy Making!
Donna
