Setting Yourself Up for a Creative 2023!

Every new year brings a new desire to do things better than all of the previous years. We have been facing this head on as we prepare for filming online art experiences and facilitating in person workshops in our studio. We want to share a few things that may also help you in your home creative space.

Tip 1 is to organize things by project. Before we schedule an experience we place all needed supplies on a designated shelf so we don't have to look for them again when it is time to set up. Whether it is for an in person session or filming for the Mixed Media Club, it helps to have everything at our finger tips.

Tip 2 is keep your basic necessity supplies that you use for every project near your workspace. Grab a caddy or container that will hold every item that you cannot complete a project without to keep it together and convenient. We all know what can happen if we have to stop and hunt for something. Squirrel! Or is that just me?

Tip 3 is make sense of the rest. As you compile surplus supplies, ask yourself a couple of questions. My two new favorites from A Slob Comes Clean, expert declutterer, are, "Where is the first place I would look for this?" and "If I need this again, would I even remember I have it?" These are so helpful when deciding what to keep on hand and where to put it. As makers, we are very susceptible to buying repeat supplies without a system or let's be real, even with a system! But making sense of our stockpile with help us reduce it from use, because now we can find everything. We can also face the likelihood of it being used at all and pass it on if we know it probably won't.

Let's set ourselves up for a creative win in 2023!
