Mix It Up

One of the many ways we provide endless inspiration through the Mixed Media Club is mixing it up! This is where I take elements and techniques from different designs to create a new finished work of art. You can do this, too! By showing you ways to mix it up, I hope to inspire you to reach deeper into that creative mind of yours!

All of the Mixed Media Club designs offer the ability to customize to your tastes and style. Mix it Up ideas demonsrate how to take personalization to the next level. You can apply this to anything you make! Be bold and trust your growing skills. Don't be afraid to make mistakes or happy little accidents, as the late Bob Ross would say.

Mix It Up came to be with a simple plan to try. I combined the background of our 3 Little Birds with our ornament sized gnomie to create 3 Little Gnomies, which was fun.

This time Mix It Up combines several previously used techniques and elements. The background layout comes from the Beachie Gnomie. I used the modeling paste and stencil technique from the sunset version of Waves of Creativity for the sky and masked off the water section of the canvas to create the same texture achieved in the background for Marcellus. Then the sand ended up taking on the qualities of the foreground in Swell Girls. Some might call this more complicated. I call it more fun!

You might not be suprised to find the camper from Campy Christmas was my first choice for templates to add to this reinvented background, but I would also entertain adding a Love Shack or another Gnomie, which are equally fun to make. Afterall, let''s be real. It all comes down to the details where we get to use all of those little trims and bits we have collected, for possibly years, to add to the perfect project. Anyone? Or is it just me?

One thing is for sure. The details will never get old for this collector of ephemeral treasures. Now it's your turn to play with possibilities! Be sure and post what you come up with inside the creative community.

Happy Making!
Donna
