Meet Marcellus
“Humans. For the most part, you are dull and blundering. But occasionally, you can be remarkably bright creatures.”
― Shelby Van Pelt, Remarkably Bright Creatures
When is the last time you felt remarkably bright? Has someone told you that you or something you did was exceptional or noteworthy, but you couldn't agree with or believe them? Very few of us are inclined to see our gifts and strengths. Most of us are way too focused on our short comings to notice when we do something extremely well. And far too many of us look at creating as something only for artists.
Marcellus is here to tell us that we can all be remarkably creative. We won't find this out until we start. We have to start.
While starting is the biggest step, the real challenge is to continue. To make the time rather than wait for time to miraculously present itself, because I am here to tell you it won't. Each piece, finished or unfinished, whether it disappoints or delivers, leads to the decision to start again. Or not.
If we are unhappy with the result, the temptation to stop is there. But, even if we are thrilled with the end product, resting in our satisfaction or our fear of the next piece falling short can bring an end to our momentum. There are many more things that can get in the way of us discovering our true creative potential and we talk about ways to overcome these inside the Mixed Media Club. We talk about them quite a bit, actually, because constant reminding is required. So we are going to keep reminding you and reminding ourselves, because it is important. And you are important!
We brought you another satisfying and therapeutic background this month, along with some super fun moving parts to customize to your style and favorite color palette. Marcellus, like any self respecting octopus, can morph into countless combinations of fabulousness! If you desire a more traditional octopus composition, rearrange and trim to your hearts content. We will do this together inside the creative community this month for some added fun!
Marcellus would also look right at home on one of the backgrounds used for "Miss Millie Sea Turtle", our "Classic" or "Come in All Sizes" mermaid designs or really any other technique by simply substituting ocean colors.
So, we encourage you to start! Maybe Marcellus can inspire you to find or reawaken the remarkable creative inside you!
Happy Making!
