Art is Everyday

It was almost as if life began for me in 8th grade Advanced Art. For one, I had never been in advanced anything before.  I didn’t exactly struggle in school, but my passion for learning was not sparked there.  Art became my focus mainly because Miss D’Amico saw something in me that I had no idea was there, nor had I been trying to find it.  Art gave me a reason to go to college and receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art was so much more than a piece of parchment paper.  It felt like an accomplishment, yes, but the experience was truly priceless, though I didn’t know or appreciate it at the time.

Fast forward, well, a few years and I have finally found my way.  I now know I NEED to create.  In the years I did not have a studio space, and there were many, it still came out of me.  This explains why I have rearranged and recreated the space in our home so many times, often to my husband’s dismay.  It was teaching others and developing new skills that showed me how beneficial and necessary it is to tap into what lies inside all of us.

I am not saying everyone should have an art studio or give up their day job, but everyone was created to create.

I think people confuse creativity and talent.  We all have talents and we are all creative.  We should tap into using our creativity in many different ways and art truly is for everyone, even if you feel your talent lies elsewhere.  I believe this so much; it is the force that drives me to bring art into the everyday for as many people as I possibly can.  And I do mean every day.  Every time you make art, you take some part of it into every day that follows. Expressing ourselves through doing something creative enhances every other thing we do, whether we realize it or not.

If you are reading this, you already know this on some level.  Maybe you are a part- or full-time maker or maybe you love the social aspect of creating with others at a workshop or gathering.  Maybe you like keeping busy and art is one of many ways you do so.  Perhaps you are the one committed to getting someone you love to a class or workshop for their benefit.  Whatever the case may be, you see the value.

Would you share that with someone today?
