Trust The Process
Trust the process. I wish I had a nickel for ever time I say that during a class or party in the studio. I think I need to remind myself as much as and sometimes more than, the people I am encouraging to create. It is so refreshing when I have that painter or maker who steams ahead loving every stroke of the brush or getting so jazzed by the papers, they chose for their template they can hardly stand it! But that is so rare. So, if you are not that artist, don’t fret. 99.9% of our experiences with creating are peppered with little moments of doubt. This is where trusting the process comes in. Focusing on the therapeutic motion of covering a canvas with paint, knowing that acrylic is so forgiving if you miss a spot, and keeping in mind that there is more to come will help drown out the sound of the naysayer in your mind.
If it is expertise you seek, this only comes with doing. I am confident to assume that others who make it seem effortless, have been doing it for quite some time. Comparison is a confidence thief who we should never allow to hang out where we create. The other part of the process we can focus on is the experience itself. This may, in fact, be the most important part. Listening to our favorite tunes, enjoying the company we may have at the time and taking what we learn into the next project put us on the road to true growth.
