If Only

If only we could spend all of our days at the beach or painting watercolors by the Seine or Kenai rivers. If only we had more time to do the things we love. Life is full of "If Onlies". There is one "If Only" we can all aspire to that is far more attainable and relatively rewarding.

If only we could create like a child creates. Our experiences would be vastly different, as every child is. Take 9 year old June. She is so experiential in her creating, she doesn't give the outcome a second thought and finds great satisfaction in making mud with her paint palette. Lauren always finds something positive to take into her next creative endeavor which she is continually seeking and finding. Then there's Ruby, making measured and deliberate decisions with confidence as she often starts before instructions are fully explained. Ivy recites every thought process she employs for auditory reinforcement. She shares her enthusiasm with all through encouragement. Little Kathryn is the youngest but in no way intimidated by the older girls as she keeps up with them step by step while joining in their conversations of pretend. Jane is there more for the social aspect, as dance is her greater form of expression. The one thing they all have in common is they don't overthink and they never grow weary of the trials and struggles art can present. They just know they love to create and jump at any chance to do so. Problem solving all along the way, they are growing a part of their brain that will serve them well in all that they do moving forward, art related or not.How can we tap into that? My best answer is, by doing. Not planning to or hoping to. Find the fun. It is within our reach and we should grab it! Every. Chance. We. Get.Which kind of creative inner child are you?
